This initiative challenges states across America to establish the 25th state office of outdoor recreation in 2025

The American Fly Fishing Trade Association (AFFTA) proudly announces our official support of 25 in 2025, a campaign led by the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable in partnership with the Confluence of States.

This transformative initiative challenges states across America to establish the 25th state office of outdoor recreation in 2025, creating a decisive milestone in the ongoing effort to elevate the importance of outdoor recreation nationwide.

Why This Matters to Our Industry:

Since 2013, 24 states have established dedicated offices to recognize outdoor recreation's economic, social, and conservation value. 

Outdoor recreation is good for communities and economies and bipartisan—its value is something that all Americans and governors of all political stripes agree on and appreciate.

The 25 in 2025 campaign will:

  • Strengthen advocacy for policies that support businesses and communities
  • Create a more unified voice for the conservation of our waterways and fisheries
  • Drive economic development in regions where our members operate
  • Establish crucial government partnerships that benefit our entire industry

Outdoor recreation is a fast-growing economy that represents a significant portion of every state's GDP and contributes to jobs, health, and quality of life in every corner of the country. States that create these offices are investing in the quality of life for their citizens, recruitment and retention for their businesses and workforce, public health, and state competitiveness. Rural communities need an advocate at the state level to help them leverage outdoor recreation assets for community health and economic development. Outdoor recreation benefits our community in terms of physical and mental health. Everyone deserves access to the outdoors, and state offices help direct resources to ensure that outcome.

The 25 in 2025 challenge represents a pivotal moment for our industry, and AFFTA is proud to support this movement.
